Car Insurance Kia (Car Insurance). Is it worth buying this car?

Is it worth buying this car? I found this one dealer that is offering to sell a 1996 eagle talon TSI(AWD and turbo) for 850 bucks cash.. the interior is in good shape, and the engine cranks right up, but smokes... Is it worth it? is the Talon TSI a rare, higher priced model?

You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.deep-ice.com If it smokes, it might be impossible to get the thing to pass emmissions.

Kia . How to Change Valve Cover Gaskets In Your Chevy, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford

If your car is leaking oil, it may be from the valve cover gaskets. Valve cover gaskets help seal the valve covers to the head. It keeps the oil from leaking out an burning on the motor. By replacing your valve covers you are preventing future, much larger problems.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions

Step by Step :
1
Take a trip to your local auto parts store. Tell them you need a valve cover gasket for the year and model car you have. Try and get a silicone gasket if it is available. These gaskets are relatively cheap. $15-$40.
2
Open the hood to your car. Locate the valve covers. This is the cover that has the oil cap on it. If it is a 4 cylinder engine, then it only has one cover, if it is a 6 or 8 cylinder then it probably has 2.
3
You will now locate the bolts holding the valve cover to the head. Use a socket and wrench to remove the bolts. Be careful when removing, you do not want to break a bolt off into the head. I personally have done this, and it is a major headache. Turn slowly to break the bolt loose. Remove all the bolts securing the cover to the head.
4
Remove the valve cover. This may take a little force. The old gasket will keep it from being removed so easily.
5
Remove and residue from the old gasket. Take a flat-head screwdriver and scrape the residue off the head. Take caution, do not chip any of the metal from the head.
6
Clean the gasket from the valve cover itself. Spray break cleaner on it to remove it easier.
7
Set the gasket in the valve cover. You may want to use some extra silicone in a tube to better seal the cover. Use it around typical trouble spots, like corners and spark plug holes. Set the valve cover slowly over the head. Make sure it lines up and the gasket does not move. If it moves, remove it and redo it.
8
After you have got the cover and gasket seated, begin to reinstall the bolts. Use a torque wrench to correctly torque the bolts. Do not over torque. You may break a bolt off in the head, and we have already discussed how that goes. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Kia . Valve Cover Polishing

One of the first things you might notice when looking at a vehicle's motor is the condition of the valve cover. A good polish can make a big difference in the overall look of your engine. It also prevents rust from forming and can keep seals from decaying.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Steel wool
Lime-cleaning agent
Metal polish
Microfiber rag
Leather chammy

Step by Step :
1
Scrub the surface heavily with steel wool, getting as deep into crevices and corners as you can. Don't worry about the roughness of the steel wool; it won't change the look of your cover.
2
Use soap and water to wash the cover off. This is usually most convenient when you are washing the rest of the vehicle.
3
Scrub out cracks and crevices on the cover with a toothbrush soaked with a lime-cleaning agent. This will dig up rust and any other residue that has built up in the corners. It will also help to remove set-in stains that have formed on the metal.
4
Rinse the cover with water, and give it plenty of time to dry completely.
5
Apply a standard metal polish to the cover, using a microfiber rag. Work with small amounts of polish at a time to help keep the coat as even as possible. Try to begin by applying a small coat, and apply more coats as desired.
6
Once the polish has soaked and dried, gently rub down the cover with a leather shammy. This will bring out the best shine in the metal.
Tips & Warnings
Try to polish the cover when it is cool outside. This will keep the polish looking clear and will prevent streaks and spots.

If the vehicle has been running close to the time of polishing, be very careful of hot parts.

Always be aware of pinch points when working around vehicle motors.

Always use caution when working with toxic chemicals.

Introduction # • e « a for many people, getting a driver's license is an event that runs second only to getting a diploma or a marriage license. We study, practice, and take the test in a state of high anticipation that's marred only by the fear of failing and being "grounded" forever. Yet most of us succeed in passing and hop happily into our cars, headed for the freedom of the open road. Unfortunately, most of us don't know the first thing about the machines we're licensed to drive — and this can turn a ticket to freedom into a ticket to trouble. I'm not necessarily talking about physical danger. State motor vehicle bureaus have made fairly sure that, before we can get a driver's license, we know how to drive defensively and can handle a car under poor driving conditions. What I'm referring to is the kind of trouble that comes from depending on other people to care for and repair our vehicles. If you're like most people, you probably tend to drive around until something goes wrong and then incur the expense of replacing worn and burnt-out parts — or the entire engine — when low-cost, regular maintenance could have kept your wheels turning for a long time. About This Book Whether you're trying to cut expenses, are tired of being patronized, or have just fallen in love with your first car, this book tells you how your car works, what it needs in the way of tender loving care, and how to keep from getting ripped off if you have to entrust repairs to someone else. By handling the simple maintenance and tune-ups and being able to diagnose trouble and perform the less complex repairs yourself, you'll earn the respect of your family, your mechanic, and your car — and you'll feel pretty good about it! In this book, I introduce you to the wonders of the internal combustion engine and to the even more wondrous newfangled engines of the future. After you get familiar with the principal parts and systems involved, I gently lead you into basic maintenance and repair tasks that you can do yourself. Don't worry about getting in over your head. If a repair can get you into trouble if you attempt to do it yourself, I tell you how to be sure the work is done properly by a professional at a fair price. I also warn you when you should tackle a job only with an experienced friend or automotive teacher at your elbow. So don't chicken out on me! Start with the easy stuff and then take on the more challenging tasks. You'll love yourself for it, and your vehicle will love you, too. Believe me, I've been there....

Auto Repair For Dummies Hou) I Became Intimately \nVoiVed u/ith My Car (and Why fault Want to Bo It, Too) Before I moved to California, I was an ordinary urban cliff dweller: I had only a nodding acquaintance with cars. Ours was locked up in a garage, to be summoned forth by my husband for excursions to "the country"; otherwise, I used subways, buses, and taxis. All the maintenance on our car was done by the garage that housed it. My sole contribution to our automotive life was choosing the color whenever we bought a new vehicle, and my main purpose in getting a driver's license was so that I could go to the supermarket during our summers in the country or drive down to the lake for a swim. I rarely, if ever, drove in the city because doing so seemed a cross between foolishness and suicide. When we moved to California, I must confess that my enthusiasm for a life in the sun was considerably dampened by the knowledge that this would also include a life on the freeway, but then I began to sow my oats. It started with a solo marketing excursion, and then that marvelous feeling of freedom that

comes with sliding behind the wheel began to take hold. Before I knew it, I was looking for a car of my own. Because the family budget had been considerably strained by the move West, the best I could do was a six-year-old Mustang with more than 70,000 miles on it. A friend of mine who had grown up in Los Angeles — and was therefore a qualified automotive expert — checked out the car and pronounced it drivable. He said that it might need "a little work." We took it to a reliable mechanic, who checked it over, tuned it up, and told me that it was "a classic." Thus reassured, I drove the car to the Department of Motor Vehicles to regis ter it. I parked the car, turned off the ignition, locked it, and found that, sitting there in the middle of the parking lot, the car was singing! A bit puzzled, I rechecked the ignition and the radio, but everything was truly shut off. And still the car sang. By the time I returned, all was quiet. But that night, when I took the family out to dinner, old Tweety Bird began to sing again. Several weeks of filling and refilling the radiator, changing the coolant, putting gunk

in the radiator to block any leaks, and so on managed to reduce the singing somewhat. But when I found out, many dollars later, that all she had needed was a new $2 radiator cap, I was made abruptly aware of two things: v* Tweety was mine, and my responsibility. If she didn't work, I wasn't going to be able to, either. V0 It would be impossible to enter this symbiotic relationship properly if I didn't know anything about her, because the garage bills were going to send both of us down the drain. Introduction So I conned a friend of mine (who happened to have two sets of automotive tools) into taking an auto shop class with me at a local adult education center. I discovered that cars are pretty simple things to deal with. Instead of a bewildering array of weird metal objects and miles of hoses that threatened to blow up if I turned a screw in the wrong direction, I soon found that a car is just a series of simple Rube Goldberg mechanisms linked together (with a computer thrown in now and then that even professional mechanics need specialists to deal with). Most maintenance, tune-ups, and many repairs involve only a few, isolated gadgets, and cars are very good about sending out signals telling you clearly what's wrong — if you know how to hear, see, smell, or feel them. Before long, it was no longer enough to be able to communicate with a mechanic; I wanted to be the mechanic myself whenever possible. I learned that the best way to work on a vehicle is to handle it like a baby — take a firm grip on things and do the job without mincing around. Not only did I save money, but Tweety began running better, and I found that I was having fun! To share the good news with everyone else, I sat down and wrote the first edition of this book. I called it.4ufo Repair for Dummies because that's the only title that I would have been willing to take a chance on before I realized how easy this stuff really is. Doing it yourself can really pay off in terms of dollars and cents. The major difference between doing the work yourself and taking it to a professional is that professional mechanics often try the most potentially lucrative solution first. If that doesn't do it, they try the next thing, and continue to try things until they hit the right one. This method can cost you a bundle. On the other hand, when you do the diagnosing, you can try the cheaper solutions first. For example, if your engine has been overheating constantly, you replace the radiator cap, pressure-test the system, and check the coolant level and the thermostat before buying and installing a new water pump. And if it finally comes down to changing the pump, you try to find a rebuilt one and install it yourself (which is usually not difficult). The money you save is well worth the effort.
